My friends Elmar and Elmar (I am not good with names, so finding friends with the same first name is very convenient) and I stumbled across this gem when striving through Rainer's "catacombs". The medium-bodied, medium-sweet wine offered plum, raisins, strawberry, raspberry, chocolate, coffee, tobacco, oak, spices and nuts on the nose and palate, with superb length. The tannin was more present than I expected; I suspect that the wine was bottled in the last six to eight years. This wine is not about the usual "wow" effect of most sweet wines, but all about elegance, balance and depth!

BYOB Tasting Menu Meritage (Meritage, St. Paul): This was another treat to taste, just a small pour, but it was showing wonderfully and I would not have imagined it was this old. Fresh and energetic with spices, molasses, citrus, hazelnut, fig newtons, and some deep red fruits. Very suave on the palate, long finish. Great way to finish the evening. Easily 93+pts.
