Retail $40. I have been a fan of Gary Farrell for so many years that it is perhaps embarrassing to admit. Sadly, several years ago, the very kind folks at Gary Farrell decided to stop producing fruit from Carneros (thank you global warming) and that is a shame on so many levels. Great red and black fruit on the nose with a tangy richness and a spice note that is quite remarkable (clove, basil, whoa). The palate is equally impressive, if not more so, with fruit, yes, but also a ton of verve and near impeccable balance. Whoa. This was in the running for wine of the night, and fared well, but the lineup was impressive.
Retail $35. It has been a year since we cracked the last bottle of this wine (which I purchased from Last Bottle, coincidentally) and the wine continues to shine. A bit dusty on the nose, but with subtle black cherry, spice, and earth. The palate is still surprisingly fruity with plenty of tang, too. Not much tannin on the backend, which suggests that any remaining bottle (I have two more) should be consumed in the near term. thedrunkencyclist.com

Doing very well, thank you very much. With climate change/global warming, Gary Farrell no longer makes this Pinot Noir so I have been fairly stingy on the bottles that remain in my cellar. Tonight? With the family over and a mini-chess tournament underway, I popped this puppy. Cherry and eucalyptus with plenty of verve. This wine is a baller, plain and simple. thedrunkencyclist.com

shared with pat at selkirk manor to celebrate the end of the work week. this is the second bottle of this wine that we have enjoyed. at nine years past the vintage, the wine is holding up well. bright color. the wine has started to soften up but still offers robust flavor. each sip creates a desire to enjoy the next one. generous fruit on the nose and the palate. medium body. medium finish. nice interplay of flavors between primary fruit and spice. wish i had bought more of this.

Soft and subtle, and as old as this was, to be expected. But not too soft - still had plenty of fruit, nice structure. A bit of brick at the rim. Nose was quiet at first, but picked up some depth with air. Paired with black cod and a vegetarian risotto at the Whitfield, good stuff.
