The Great Families of Madeira (Hearth, NYC): [Family: D’Oliveira] Just like the previous wine, this was a “Family Reserve” wine that was set aside for longer aging in bottle. This was bottled in the 1970s and decanted for four days. Dark in color and a bit cloudy in appearance. Assorted dried fruits, tanned leather and baking spices on the nose, with a light caramel, honey and citrus zest palate. Tangy and precise on the finish, with supple acidity. This really lingers in the mouth with fantastic length and clarity. Beautiful.

The Great Families of Madeira (Rare Wine Co - hosted by Mannie Berk) (Hearth Restaurant, New York City): Listed on tasting program as 'Bual Family Reserve'. Bottled with wicker 1970s. Dark brown. Dark nose of roasted figs, coffee, caramel and molasses. Still a little tight, with high acid. Orange peel, molasses, and spice. Excellent drive and acid, but not as full on the palate as the 1892 Sercial or the 1850 Verdelho. dusty nutty finish. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5/20.
