From late-release magnum released coincident with the release of the 1997 vintage 750mL bottles in the US market. Stated as a production of 2000 magnums. Honey color with abundant medium bead. Aromas from the glass are of toasted nuts, vanilla, cream, butterscotch, and a hint of toffee. Palate shows toasted nuts, vanilla cream, butterscotch, some herbal elements, and a honeyed lemon charater that transforms to date and toffee on the medium-long finish. The oak here still seems disjoint despite several years on the cork. Ultimately, if you like Vilmart, you'll love this. If you don't get the oak, then you'll hate it. Drink or hold.

Out of magnum. The oak is well integrated. The palate has depth and the finish has good length. Notes of secondary on the palate, yet it has enough freshness and fruit to hold for a number of years....But why would you do that? Really balanced and enjoyable NOW. One of the most complete wines from the region I've had this year.

Drinking fantastically well at this time. With a deep golden honey color tone and taste, it carries a long, smooth finish. The perlage was ultra fine, glittering in the glass.

Russell's Pebbles Fizz Offline II (28-50, London): En magnum. Deep straw. Lovely spicy nose. Ginger. Comous but really quite engaging. Long. Reasonably complex and pretty much a point. Impressive for the year and also in its own right. ****
