This is so vibrant, perfumed and silky. Red fruits and floral spice on the nose and in the mouth. So fresh and deep. Excellent persistence and just incredibly youthful.

A private dinner (Scharzhof, Wiltingen, Germany): Magnum. Recent release. Good depth, mature sweetness, quite rustic in style, spicy and a bit chocolaty, fresh and grippy but the aromatic development is quite advanced, the palate is fresher.

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #023; Vosne Romanée (By VD): The bouquet is a bit locked at first, but there are mushrooms and autumn impressions. On the palate a juicy wine with red berries, minerals, red currants, beautiful acidity and soft tannin. The wine develops in the glass. Still powerful. Beautiful wine.

From a half bottle with a very high fill. Youthful purple-claret colour with good depth to the colour as well. Only the barest hit of brick-colour at the rim suggest any degree of maturity. On opening, the wine still cool gave little away on the nose except tightly meshed red fruit, gaminess & damp wood. With a couple of hours open, it's still not exhuberant, but has acquired a little smokiness. The palate quite open with a surprising depth of flavour, balancing sweet and savoury and with refreshing acidity. Opens out nicely in the mouth as well even with some (soft) residual tannins.
Could do with a year or two more to gain complexity, but it's certainly very approachable/enjoyable now.

From a magnum, still in a dormant phase and quite tannic. Retry in 3-5 years.
