2011 DRC Tasting (Paris, France): About the same color as the Richebourg and the nose was more closed. Subtle hints of red, blue and black fruit along with roses and spice on the nose. This improved slightly with air, but remained fairly reserved. It was all back there though. Incredible detail on the palate which was just beautiful and had a distinct blue fruit note along with some plum oak and Asian spice. The finesse and power of this wine made it stand out in the tasting and for me the flavor profile was the most enjoyable. If only it were slightly more open tonight. Wonderfully long finish with a subtle grip that left the complexity of this wine lingering until the next day. La Tache is something.
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 2011 (St. Gallen): Profound and ethereal, with exotic, dark spices. It keeps changing and gaining in complexity. On the palate it's subtle, and immediately mineral, with a light bitterness, which develops into a complex mix of spices. Extremely long finish, very spicy. Unique.
97+ Mittleres helles Rubinrot Himbeeren, rotfruchtig, floral,Waldboden, mineralisch.
Sixth and last in line of tonight’s six DRC 2011’s on the table. The wines had been decanted for 60 minutes prior to being poured. This shows the typical DRC nose, no doubt! Great flowery perfume, a complete flower garden actually, with roses and violets, raspberries, smoky stone quarrel, just newly blasted with dust and hints of gunpowder lingering in the air, lovely spices, complex green herbs, licorice and steams. On the palate the 2011 La Tâche displays a fantastic structure and depth, with an impeccable balance and acidity in perfect harmony, deep and dark fruit, almost bottomless. Some spicy green stems on the superb long finish ads some extra complexity to this masterpiece. A lovely La Tâche again. Drink now or in 20+ years.
