Inky, dark garnet color; classy yet wild nose of hedgerow and pine; nice dark cherry fruit with licorice notes. Impressively persistent for a 12 year old Bourgogne (far superior to another one they bottled that year and labeled “Tradition”).

I still love pouring this blind for “the cognoscenti” and another genius called this “gran cru”. Remains “big” with rich fruit, woodsmoke, graphite and violets; hints of root vegetable yet floral and fruit richness abound. With air gets more rustic and gamey. No one guessed a “mere generic bourgogne”.

This wine continues to unfurl and is now displaying huge dark cherry fruit and opulence. Very easy and balanced could perhaps be a touch soft for long term holding. But it is a very “entry level” bottling of blended holdings, excellent as it is.

Still fresh, barely secondary, slightly confected sweetness with bright red cherry and graphite notes.
