13.% alcohol A very nice food friendly Zinfandel. Charming black tea and berry jam notes without the usual overpowering sweetness, vanilla oak, and alcohol of many Lodi Zinfandels. This is a very well made and balanced wine.
Decanted 90 mins. ahead. Cherry-ruby color. Nice nose of black cherries, earth, dark spices. Fruit-forward on the palate, as plum and cassis flavors join clove notes. Acid balance is toward softness. Finishes quickly with very low tannins. A pleasant wine, to be enjoyed quickly and soon. More fruit-laden than when I last tasted it, and simpler.
Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Nice nose of black raspberries, pomegranate, cloves, a bit of rust. Lots of lively fruit on the palate, along with cinnamon flavors. Food-friendly acid balance, which means neither soft nor tart. Finishes quickly with iron shavings, light tannins, and juicy grip. This wine over-performs for its price ($18). Completely worthwhile.
