  • Nose: honeysuckle, pineapple, coconut, citrus, caramel, fig, maltose
Notes: tasted blind. Without a better word, I always describe the signature Ramonet nose to include maltose so I was able to identify this wine from this hint. This wine, despite a badly damaged label, is in pristine condition in terms of color for its age and shows a good nose of tropical fruits with white flowers. This clearly still has some life ahead of it but obviously there's no need to wait as this is fully mature now. Although there was a debate as to whether the wine was corked due to the dampness on the cork but I would respectfully disagree. This surely is a fine Batard but I can't say this was overwhelmingly good and surely does feel younger than it tastes.

  • From the same batch as previous bottle. It showed some secondary aroma of herbs. Lacking all the Ramonet signature tonight.

  • Colour is very bright and clear. Perfect condition. Spearmint, citrus, toast and minerals. Palate is incredibly young and backward for its age. Very good minerality on the palate. Enjoy the widely open 91 Ruchottes first and give the Batard another 3-5 more years. 93-94

  • Bottle purchased in Burgundy. Very young and vibrant. Still very primary initially but it opened up with white peach, minerals and perfume. Round fruit on the palate. Hopefully it will develop some secondary character with more time. Phenomenal provenance. 93+

  • Deep, golden color. Long, rich, slightly honeyed finish. Some tasters complained this was prematurely oxidized, but I noted that after 18 it's hard to call oxidation of a Chardonnay "premature." Furthermore, the oxidation was hardly enough to be detrimental to this superb wine.
