Community Tasting Notes (5) Median Score: 92 points

  • Classic vr with dark berries, cinnamon, spice and herbs. Expansive on the palate with weighty grip but it should benefit from further aging to gain nuance. 91-92

  • From a nice looking bottle purchased on release, this wine had a deep red center with some puce at the rims. The dark complexion of the medium intensity nose was very 1993. It showed blackberries, tree bark, lanolin, and plums.

In the mouth, this wine was light and not showing much at first. After 4 hours of air, it was medium bodied with firm, rounded tannin, solid acidity, and excellent length.

This wine had the firm texture and dark flavors of the vintage. It is a long distance runner and I believe it is just coming into its zone. Drink over the next 10-15 years. It may even improve by a point or so if things go well.

  • Very cool and rocky. Fresh fruit flavours. A hint of spice. Really classy juice that still has plenty of structure from the vintage.

  • Brilliant, pellucid ruby with slightly watery rim. Nose of smoky cherry, Vosne spice, camphor, yellow beets, and a sweet, enveloping canopy of orchard fruit. In the mouth a bit of the austerity (acidity and slightly drying tannin) of the vintage. Succulent secondary fruit can't quite measure up to the aromatics, but the very long and serious finish suggests another few years' cellaring are in order.
PS - The following day, the fruit had retreated, overtaken by abrasive tannin and insistent acidity. I'm giving my remaining bottle a long time-out in a dark corner, but I'm skeptical about any improvement in its attitude.

  • Aromatics offer just a soft whisper of Vosne spice. Some find barnyard in it too, but I didn't notice. Regardless, this is tannic, firm, and sharp -- not pleasant to drink, and years away from it assuming it will ever get there.
