  • Glass: Zalto Bordeaux
Popped and poured, drunk over 3 days.
Clear, deep ruby-garnet color with no sediment. Clean, medium+ developing nose with an awesome bunch of aromas: Red and dark fruit (plum, dark cherries), fine cedar wood, tobacco, spices, speck menthol. From day three on, the fruit was completely gone and the nose reminded me of great, perfectly matured BDX. Very complex, multi layered, deep and beautiful!
Dry, with some extract sweetness. Perfectly integrated, medium+-high acidity that balances the 14,5% abv perfectly. Due to the acidity this wine is never massive, hot or fat. Medium+ silky tannin. Medium+ body. On the palate a fantastic bunch of flavors: red and dark fruit interwoven with finest oak and cedar, tobacco, spices, smoke and later on menthol. All flavors linger on and on in the long finish. If at day one easily detectable as a great Shiraz it morphed into a great BDX. Wonderful balance, tension and elegance, deep and rather cool. Makes so much fun to drink. Potential for 10+ years. 95+. PQR is fantastic, when you had the chance to buy it at release…

  • One hour decant. Cork in excellent condition. Little sediment.

Still quite dark in colour. Oak not evident. Medium bodied. Excellent balance and a nice match to the Wagyu steak cooked on the BBQ.

It is a pity that Rockford no longer do their Single Vineyard Series any more.

  • Glass: Riedel Sommelier Bordeaux
Rockford is one of the cult winery’s in the Barossa valley. Very traditional winemaking, no own vineyards, tiny quantities and most of the sale happens in limited quantities at their cellar door. Famous for their basket press Shiraz and the very rare single vineyard selections (SVS) mostly from Flaxman and Hoffman (Ebenezer district). SVS wines are released about 6-8 years after bottling. Only produced in rare vintages.
Drunk over 5 days from non-chilled bottle.

Makes so much fun to drink now, but I would recommend a 2-3h decant. Potential for 10+ years. One of the best Aussie Shiraz I ever tasted so far. 94-95+. • 95+

  • Best bottle (@Schmiede, Kirchheim): Glass: Schott Zwiesel Red Wine
Unfortunately decanted a bit too long (about 3h) and the wine was a bit too warm (around 22 degrees).
Clean, medium purple color. Beautiful intense aussie Shiraz nose. Dry, high, well integrated acidity which makes this wine quite elegant. All that you can ever wish from a great aussie Shiraz: Lots of dark fruit, spices, oak, smoke. Intese and very long. It has a potential for the next decade or more. Usually a 95+ wine, but this time a bit to alcoholic due to the high serving temperature.
