Michael Schuster: A Decade of Red Burgundy: 2016-2006 (Mullenlowe, C-Space, 37-45 City Riad, London, EC1Y 1AT): Very closed note, very young for a Grand Cru. Red and dark fruit, black cherries, toast, sweet strawberries, delicately spiced. Real depth of flavour, long finish. High acidity. Delicate, fine, beautifully textured, scented. Length goes on and on. Classically refined Grand Cru but needs a lot more time - probably another decade.

La Paulée de San Francisco - The Verticals (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. Faint floral notes lead to bright red and black berry aromas with hints of thyme, black pepper and game. Restrained but complex flavors have impressive balance and texture. Not nearly as powerful or opulent as the fantastic 2009 also in the vertical, but i think this will become the more exciting wine 2020+. Excellent+.

Impressions from the 2014 La Paulee Verticals Tasting (Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco): Light ruby. Darker fruit than the '09 and '08, more on the black side. Lean feel, especially compared to the 2009. More herbs than the others. Very different animal than the '09. Clearly needs time. Will it turn out better? I'm not sure it has the stuffing or balance, but it may be closed and a poor time to assess it.
