  • Still rather primary in flavor profile though texturally this is coming together with fruit that is more round than rustic. A few more years and the nuances should emerge and blossom.

  • I had this wine 5 years ago and raved about it then. It’s just as good, maybe even better today. Has that quintessential burgundy ability to be light on its feet but also having great and intense, depth of fruit.

  • 13.5% alcohol. The cork breaks up 3/4 of the way at extraction, but the rest is easily rescued. Light colour early on, both a bit more brown by the end of the meal.
Evolved nose of undergrowth mixed with red berries; a good bit of lift at the back end. The mouth is both harmonious and lively, more so than what the nose would suggest. Very good mouthfeel. A superb match for a superb duck.
Based on the difference of perception between the start and the end of the meal, I would say that this wine is at peak; nothing to be gained by waiting any longer.
A notch below the previous bottle, but still a classy Nuits.

  • {bought on release, perfect fill, sound cork} [2 glasses sampled using argon system with JL] - Flat out delicious, tannins resolved and an excellent wine. All of a piece from nose to palate to finish. Suspect it is at peak but should hold here for some time.

  • Double blind. Maturing but still fresh earthy red cherry nose that is layered with herb and spice. Palate is mature and fully integrated with fruit that is ripe but still juicy. Not particularly complex or distinctive but enjoyable. I was guessing 1er MSD.
