I was very impressed with how well this wine showed last night. No official notes but I wish I had more and feel like it has peaked and should stay there for the next 12-24 months.

A dynamite 2010 Sonoma Coast pinot. Pulled and poured, I could tell from the first nose that it was going to be good. Stylistically this is very similar to other 10+ year old RM Sonoma Coast Pinots I’ve had (the regular bottling): not a fruit bomb but perfectly balanced unsweetened cherry with citrusy tartness. Delicious on its own but also great with dinner (shrimp and grits).

This is an exceptional wine that demonstrates the merits of aging (yes, even Califonia pinot). When young, this might have been overbearing (and some of the notes below seem to bear this out). Now, fully integrated but still quite bright and lively. Aromas of cherries, citrus, spice and wet earth. Slides across the palate with bright red fruit, the signature RM orange/citrus note, some clove/baking spice, and still bracing acidity. Long, long finish. Fantastic.

Strawberries, sous bois, Asian spices, darker berries, camphor. Wet earth coming in and out. Very broad and haunting. Delicious enjoyed by all.
