  • 10,8% alcohol. Tasted blind.

Intense yellow-green color. Smoky, flinty and somewhat toasty nose that makes me think instantly of Hunter Valley Sémillon. Light lemony citrus fruit notes, a hint of fresh white fruits and a touch of steely minerality. The wine is light-bodied, crisp and steely on the palate with intense, bracing acidity. At this point I'm thinking that this is as Hunter Valley Sémillon as the wines go. Flavors of tart lemony citrus fruits, developed waxy character, a little bit of tangy green apples, light steely minerality and a hint of quinine bitterness. The wine shows some sense of age, but the overall style is very youthful and playful - yet very tightly-wound and lean at the same time. Wonderful sense of structure. The finish is crisp, tart and dry with intense flavors of tart green apples, key lime, some steely minerality, a little bit of waxy viscosity, a hint of wet stones and a touch of quinine bitterness.

A very fresh, lively and tasty Riesling that could easily pass for a Hunter Valley Sémillon with some age. I mean, really, I was insisting that this must be a somewhat aged HVS and getting a "no" for an answer was baffling, since this wine was checking all the boxes with a red marker. Great stuff, but only if you love lean, bone-dry wines with piercing acidity. This is a playful wine, but not a fun and accessible wine. Based on how youthful the fine feels like, I can imagine it will continue to develop for years more. A great example how Jacob's Creek can make some serious wines in the higher range. Good value at 24€.

  • Pale; 'fiery', petrol, tight; citrussy, curious, gawky; awkward finish. Going through an odd phase?

  • Distinct spritz. This is drinking well & really sings, tangy acidity, chalky. Should age up to 10 years. Extended length.

  • Monthly Tasting Group EEE #055: Around Adelaide (@ PV): Special and smoky bouquet with minerals, pear, apple and petrol. On the palate nicely dry with citrus and tropical fruits. The wine develops in the glass.
