Great nose of dark fruits, earth, oak and tons of cinnamon spice. Medium-bodied and just a bit lighter-weight than prior bottles. Lovely dark cherry flavors with spice, oak and earth. Bordeaux-like lean texture with great balance, and a smooth and seamless mouthfeel. Great intensity and depth of flavors, and a long finish. Not quite as rich and textured as prior bottles, but adds weight and depth with airtime.
No notes, but this was simply outstanding - very much like a prior bottle and perhaps even a bit better. Deep, layered, juicy, focused dark berry flavors along with some spice, earth and plenty of oak. As with prior bottles, this was structured more like a cabernet than a merlot and had plenty of "stuffing" to balance all the fruit. Medium to full body and concentrated with a rich, firm texture. I really, really like this wine. Great combination of richness and power that is only a small step below of the likes of Paloma, Pride, Plumpjack, etc.
Nose like a Howell Mtn. cabernet - dark and brooding. Concentrated flavors of dark cherry, charcoal, oak and spice with a medium body, lean texture and firm structure . Built a bit more like a cab than a merlot, with darker fruits, more concentration and more structure than I expected. I had hoped this might be a good alternative to a big, expensive cabernet and this fit the bill perfectly.
