  • Sunday Brisket (Matt's, Portland OR): Nose: The nose shows off a richer side with vanilla, black pepper, licorice, black Cherries, raspberries, violets, oak, spice notes, and black currants.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with medium acidity and silky, medium tannins. There is a creaminess to the feel with black cherries, raspberries, black pepper, vanilla, black currants, spice notes, and some oak.

Overall: This is drinking perfectly right now. It has a richer and darker take to it compared to the Bandol and more sleekness to it. There isn’t any real reason to age it further as it doesn’t feel like there’s much room for improvement.

  • P&P. Very nice red but this right on the edge of fading. Eeking out some tasty fruit that is closely morphing into a raisin like quality - but it pulls it off.

  • This went from a decent bottle, to a fantastic bottle since my last tasting. Rich earthy and extremely balanced from beginning to end. Nose is muted as normal for this era of Syncline Mourvedre. Better than the Red Mountain of the same vintage.

  • This wine has emerged as a true wonder. At 8 years past vintage it still had life, energy, and more in the tank. At first, it was very wild, with meat, forest, and microbial suggestions. After 24 hours it was more lithe with bright cherry and blackberry fruit and a more acidic finish. The tannins also began to show up here and provide great length. By day 2 it had a nose of Bailey's or Mozart liqueur with luscious dark fruit on the finish. I have one more and I will leave it alone for another year.

  • P/w 15 in glass, no decant. Clear, deep dark purple. Med to full nose. Black and blue fruit, clean, sharp, definitely not over extracted. Wow, this is great stuff and in a perfect drinking window. Med/full body and intensity, superb balance and integration. If blind, would guess Cab/Malbec blend. Delicious, with I had more, nothing off. $26

(Syncline Wine Cellars Mourvedre Horse Heaven Hills) Wound up very tightly right now with dark cherry flavors, light herbal notes, savory notes, and sauvage. The palate is incredibly textured and restrained with tart fruit flavors and a real sense of vibrancy. This is a wine that will only get better with a few years in the cellar and will fit in perfectly at the dinner table. 100% Mourvèdre. Coyote Canyon (65%) and Alder Ridge vineyards. Fermented and aged 16 months in concrete (50%) and neutral French oak. 350 cases produced.
