Surprise, surprise! I fully expected this to be way past its prime and maybe it was but it had evolved into something unexpected that I found very pleasurable. It didn't smell at all like a young Rochiloli SB, I smelled orange preserves, vanilla (!), and spicy/floral scents (?). At first taste there was a little bitterness but this quickly disappeared as the wine aired. The wine tasted much like it smelled without the vanilla and had a much longer finish than the wine had when young. I recently had a similar experience and very much enjoyed an '01 Araujo SB. I'm intrigued -- can SBs age into something of interest? These two did.
Served with scallops and fettucine with arugula. Great food wine. Very pale green color with a nice crisp nose with floral and citrus aromas. Medium bodied, with a bit of melon and grapefruit tones and nice rounded acidity.
