  • Aerate to decanter and immediate serve. Color dark red with some black hues, full body. Deep bouquet of dark cherries, fig sauce bubbling on a stove, hoisin, dark chocolate, some farmland animale funk, and dark soil. Powerful and pushing toward rustic on the palate with its combination of red and black fruit amply supported by graphite, mildly funky clay, soil and mineral tones along with dark chocolate and spices throughout. Medium acidity emerges in the midpalate and finish with some tangy notes popping through. Medium-plus level of tannins but they are velvety, giving this a rather soft texture throughout. Outstanding balance, a long finish, and an even longer aftertaste of earthy notes. I have no idea why we did not finish this the first night, but coming back to it the second night it was even more complex in the bouquet and taste, with only mild oxidation in fruit. Apart from the cutesy bottle and label, this is a serious wine that makes you want to say "Arrggghhh!" for the unabashed Syrah satisfaction it delivers.

  • Stunning red , shows prowess of Barrett wine making . Much better after two hours decant. Dark cherries , cocoa, tobacco , mild leather , stone, graphite , mild tannins .

  • Awesome big kitchen sink blend in a funky bottle. Don't be fooled by the bottle into thinking this is not a serious wine as it really delivers.

  • A fun, very quaffable wine with pleasant flavors and enough going on to keep it interesting. A little hard to take it seriously with all the pirate theme stuff, but a nice wine.

  • Jean Phillips did a wonderful job and the bottle is the shape of an old rum bottle. Excellent bouquet and the wine really opened with complex hints of blackberry, chocolate and a hint of tobacco
