  • Appears to be brown in colour but with a garnet core , fading at the edges. Still displays a rich aroma of red fruits, cherries, prunes, figs, chocolate, faded rose petals, licorice. On the palate,it has a full, sweet glycerine quality, with flavours of dried fruits, caramel, and prunes. There is a spiritous peppery kick at the end , and the wine slips warmingly down leading to a clean finish . I have had this bottle for some 40 years, and it has survived 3 moves of house. Always passed over in recent years I thought it must have dried out. The cork , of course ,crumbled, and there was a little ullage, but otherwise perfect, following decanting. For a wine intended for drinking by the late 1980s, it is in fantastic condition . A lovely old fading port that still packs a surprising punch. A tribute to the quality of wine produced by Taylors,in the 1960s,even in lesser vintages, of which this would have been a blend.
