Brunello Night (Extra Space): Tasted blind. Slow-oxed in bottle for 1 hour before drinking. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of classic sour red cherries, leather, earth. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), smooth medium tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of tart sour red cherries (in a good way), tomato, leather, earth. Long finish. Very good quality. Classic traditional Brunello showing. Was unfortunately tasted in between 2 good Il Poggiones, so suffered the curse of mediocrity in comparison. Drink and enjoy over next 2-3 years. Aged 3 years in traditional Slavonian oak barrels, and 1 year in bottle.
Decanted two hours. Dark red, a bit of browning on the edge. Excellent nose of tart cherry and some leather. Full palate of more tart cherry and spices. Excellent with food, excellent on its own, in great balance with good acidity and structure, so can last. In a very good window right now.
The tannins on this wine that others have called "gripping", have integrated seamlessly, and this wine is drinking beautifully right now. Still maintains the cherry, mint, leather, vanilla, all balanced perfectly
