Reading my previous note from three years ago, the suggestion was that this was starting to close up, tightening after a couple of hours. This bottle starts in that surly, slightly mean and disinterested state. The ingredients remain in place, but today’s not the day to engage. Overnight it starts to loosen a little, but one to return to in a year or two. (***)

Last weekend of January 2022: Crimson, and on the nose much more vibrant than its 1 year older sibling. Still a good concentration of fruit, vibrant on the tongue, well balanced. The sour cherry is more pronounced but it’s well balanced - an easy drink if that isn’t too condescending to this lovely drop. Now THIS is a good reminder of how good villages burg with a little age on them can be.

Saturday Night Cooking and Doctor Who: Nice - bit of sour cherry acidity in the middle with some flesh around it. There's a mouth watering character to it - have a few of these left and I will try to leave them as I feel there's some interesting development to come.

“Running” Club Zoom night Vintage Pairs (Zoom): Paler colour than the 08, almost bricking on the rim. On the nose, a touch of earthiness, some red fruits. On the palate - lovely and balanced, a spine of acidity but not too much, this is ready to drink - although I feel it has time ahead of it. A really lovely villages Gevrey - very pleased to have more left in storage. My #2 wine of the evening.

First from the half case. A lovely bright core of garrigue strawberry with a touch of earthiness starting to develop. Relatively light and elegant, though not short of mid palate depth. Finishes well. Starts to show signs of tightening after a couple of hours. Lovely now and plenty in reserve. I’ll look in on it again this evening, but top *** possibly ***1/2.
