  • Wow, this came in a flight of three Montrachet 2009, the others being Drouhin Marquis de Laguiche and Henri Boillot. The DRC trashed the competition with a much more intense, mouthfilling and complete package. Yes, it is almost over the top, but it somehow never looses its nerve and tension. The balance is impeccable and at such a high level (i.e. high fruit/dry extract and high acidity) it is unbelievable. I understand they harvest very late and that they sometimes have botrytis affected grapes which explains the sheer volume of fruit on the nose and palate. The yields are also very low, and the high level of dry extract gives an almost tannic expression. Anyway, very impressive and in a league of its own at this young stage.

  • It was a little reduced and had a big hit of matchstick sulphur on the nose. The wood was toasty and married well with the creamy, dense orchard fruits. It was chewy and layered in the mouth and had good line and excellent underlying minerality.

  • He needs time to pick up the pace. Strongly toasted, white tea, white peach, mangos. Potent but hardly variable. He does have a good acidity and a long aftertaste. But compared to the previous year he is hard to judge. He was introverted and dominated by toasted aromas.

  • DRC 2007 vs 2009: Lys, gyllen gul.
Flott, frisk syre. Lang lengde med smørtoner.
