  • bit dirty, evolved colour. nose: ripe, floral with some descending fruity aromas plus umami. taste: very sandy tannins, tobacco; some red and black cherries plus plums still present. still fresh with long finish. Excellent structure.

  • On the first day, I felt it was pretty average wine, almost past peak with mushroom, dried flowers, brown tea leaves, and leather. However, the wine performed better with more air, tried the last bit on the second day and the tannin and acidity toned up a bit with prettier purple fruits and minerals.

This is the second wine to their Brunello di Montalcino. 100% Sangiovese. It spent 18 months in large, neutral Slavonian oak casks.

  • This was a disappointment tonight. Think I liked it better upon opening this afternoon. I opened about 3 hours before dinner took a test pour and slow oxed it till leaving for Young Joni where I pulled the cork soon after arrival so this saw another 90 minutes of air before drinking. This drank very youthfully primary and stingy tonight. Especially in a flight with a ready to go 1999 Poggio Di Sotto BdM that was resolved and drinking beautifully. This drank more like a 2013 Brunello on release. Oh well. Last btl and now I'll never know if this ever came to fruition. Tonight, some red fruit, licorice, and balsamic and not much else.

  • Second bottle from the case. This bottle is less refined than the previous bottle with leaves, tea, dark cherries and grippy tannins.

  • Great bottle. Seems appropriate as it was my last. Overall consistent with previous notes but one step further towards maturity. Pretty fruit with a more prominent balsamico note. Black tea and herbs. Polished and ripe tannins, balanced acidity with lots of life left. Really enjoyed this bottle, I don't think it will get much better than this.
