  • A Few Nice Bottles on My Birthday: I see I'm the last of us on CT to have any of this lovely wines so I guess this is actually a "private note". I bought a lot of 1988's on release and committed infanticide on most of them long before now but this one has been worth the wait. Decanted 2 hours. Delicate color with a clear edge. Lovely old Burg nose with gently smoky spices, sandalwood and old cherry liqueur--all so well integrated. Soft and lightly sweet on entry, this has great poise and class. Feminine, elegant and wonderfully complex for a wine of this age, this was a real treat tonight on my 61st birthday. Drink now through 2015.

  • Decanted for about an hour. Lovely maturing color--light overall shading through amber to the clear edge. Very classy nose of Asian spices, sandalwood, smoke. Nice interplay of tart and sweet fruit on the palate with spiced red cherry, hibiscus tea and a touch of Luxardo liqueur. Poised, elegant and classy, this is a really fine '88. Drink now through 2015.
