  • From my old cellar situation, no cooling or humidification. Was drinkable and decent, but unremarkable.

  • Root Day - Cork sound. Decanted off a small amount of fine sediment. Almost opaque garnet core out to a ruby edge with just a touch of orange showing. Served in a Pinot Noir glass. On the decant and pour the nose is red flowers, savoury herbs and some light dried red fruit. On the palate it’s medium to full bodied and very smooth with ripe red and blue fruit, light herbs, red flowers and very light tobacco, black licorice and leather. The finish is long with spice, dried red fruit and some earthiness. Perfect for enjoying now but will happily go another 3-5 years. Delightful!
2nd day - Root Day. This time in a Cabernet glass. No change in colour. Nose is still red flowers but now they’re a bit wilted. However, the dark fruit has come to the fore along with the leather and some tobacco. It’s even more velvety on the palate than yesterday with bold red and black fruit integrated. The finish is warm and long. Spice, dark fruit, black licorice and herbs all form a part of the finish. This is much more complex than yesterday and deserves much more appreciation.
3rd and last day - Root Day. No change in colour. Nose is expressive dark fruit and red flowers with some herbs and tobacco added in. On the palate it’s gone a bit flabby with the fruit starting to seem over ripe and the tobacco and leather elements adding some earthiness. Still tasty but definitely not the wine it was yesterday. The finish is pretty warm with both spice and alcohol showing.
Of the 3 days the second day was by far the best showing for this wine.
