  • Dark garnet in color with some clearing at the edges & a bit hazy. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruits aromas of cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, briary notes, herbs, some anise, pepper, minerals, smoky, oak & a hint of vanilla. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & blueberries with spices, herbs, minerals & a slight touch of vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present but at 30 years of age it is at its pinnacle of development, so drink up.

  • Still drinking beautifully.
Should have been decanted just prior to serving as it has considerable sediment.
    drink soon.

  • Popped to celebrate one of my favorite local barkeeps moving on to new things. Luckily, it turned out to be a birth year wine for him. Double luck is that this showed so well. Shows a bit of the 14.8% warmth but not a lot. The amazing this is how elegant and balanced this is even at that alc level and age. Still fresh blackberry fruits. Wood notes as spice. Fresh and tasty. Touches of oxidation but less than you would expect likely due to this being from a magnum.
Back label says this wasn't bottled until May of 1995. So the wood treatment was likely extended. It also lists four vineyards in this blend at various percentages(Arata, Belloni, Chelli, Rue). See pic. Really terrific.

  • Still holding on and drinking beautifully.
It's time to drink remaining bottles over next year or so...

  • Friday Tasting Group: In HONOR of 1 of the Group's Mentors (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): José, you OUTDID yourself with this one! :)

From the same bottle as BHRH below.

N: Slightly closed; A bit of funk with ripe berries; Intensity lurking

P: Med, poss MF, body; RNDISH entry with very NICE, ALMOST swtish frt firmed by an astringent pucker which QUITE resolves by the VERY LONG, BALANCED finish with an enticing tangy/swtness to the few innocuous, dusty tannins. For now & POSS making its 35th? An OUTSTANDING bottle! My Exceptional-/Exceptional! [I.e., 96-100 on the 100 pt scale.]
