Not a lot of fruit but pleasant herbal tinged earthy cassis on the nose, surprisingly clean, a nice perfume; very light on the palate, not unpleasant, very fine tannins, pretty enjoyable in an undemanding way.
Unopened case well stored. However, corks crumbled, lots of sediment. Brown with little nose left. Improved a little over an hour, but was completely dead by 24 hours. Not sure if my whole case was imperfect, or if the wine is now over the hill. Surprised by good reviews from june 2012.
Bought via auction. Zero expectations given the vintage and ratings but this was fantastic wine. A completely full fill with a firm perfect cork.
Still ripe with firm tannins, tasted young. Mushrooms and truffle obvious flavors on the palate. Deep dark red color. Mid palate is a little light / tannic. Olive / Pepper Nose. Medium+ finish. Great Showing, delicious, underrated.
Not sure what to expect for this vintage. But was really surprised at how well the wine was drinking. Pichon is a very consistent producer, and this wine supports that. Fruit was bright, still forward. Elements of earth, tobacco, olive and truffle. Nice finishthat lasted 60 seconds.
