- Purple color and aromas of blackberry and licorice anise - Very purple. Blackberry and spice nose that came strong out of the bottle. Big dark fruit to start reminding me of black raspberry mister misty from Dairy Queen in a good way. Finish is medium length with some spice

Memorial Day 2013 events: A top notch, circa $20 shiraz that speaks Australian but can appeal to palates that seek structure and refinement. Dark berry and olives notes with a mineral tinge. And the score is relative to price point, factoring in that the Saxum costs 4x as much ...

At Latva Bar in Helsinki. On the nose salt liquorice, smoke and some dark fruit. Medium bodied, sweet dark fruit, liquorice, pepper and a little smokey notes. Pretty nice and easy drinking.

WXTP Tasting III (TH's Place): A bit of a strange name for a wine, and the fancy bottle label smacked of marketing aimed at the casual consumer. However, while not being very good, this was not all that bad either. It was a bit more reserved nose than most of the other wines, showing rather deep-set notes of kirsch and blackberry seasoned with some funky earth, fragrant herbs and a layer of sweet oak. Decent enough. The palate was modernly-styled, but pleasant enough, with a rich, supple mouthful of black fruit – plums and blackberries – lined with firm but velvety tannins and some well-integrated acidity. My problem was that it was just a tad too extracted, with an overt dryness on the backpalate as the fruit receded to reveal a skeleton of teeth-staining tannins and some herbal notes. There is decent raw material here again though and it should age decently over the next 3-4 years. Not great, but not a bad wine.
