Slow ox for an hour and a half in bottle. Drank over a couple of hours.
Nose screams Rutherford Dust. Also notes of pencil lead. Minimal fruit on the nose. Palate needed another hour to come around - was a little sharp at first. Then it really started to strut and show black fruits. Strong backbone on this guy. Tannins still noticeable. Long, lingering finish.
This went head-to-head for me with the 2012 Lail as WOTN. Totally different wines, but both fantastic. This was more masculine, the Lail was more luscious and layered.
Re-corked and revisited on Day 2. This held up the best of all of the "leftovers" from Day 1. Still had the "it" factor. Will see what time does with my last bottle and hold for at least a few years.
Drank at wine dinner at The Palm in Beverly Hills. 5th of 5. This is a big step done from the flagship 2009. Was last of 5 bottles so by that time I'm not going to pretend I remember it well. Waitress was cute. I remember that better.
