Two identical bottles, briefly decanted, Zalto universal. This is a dense but elegant and well-balanced dark wine. There is even a really good acidity, with an Italian feel to it. It accompanied excellent steaks, something we rarely eat but served to two wonderful neighbors who appreciated the whole thing very much. Steaks and wine were à point, and the wine had plenty of life left.

First half, decanted an hour, Zalto universal glasses: Very fragrant mature nose with earth, thyme and dark berries. Nice presence in the mouth with some tannin. Good food wine. Better than the last time.
Much more exciting on the second day, from recorked half-bottle, decanted an hour. Rich, juicy, heady character with sous-bois in nose as well as mouth and a lot of fruit. It also shows a little dirty note that adds to the complexity but might be my fault (insufficiently cleaned half-bottle). Harmonious and good cool acidity to balance the heady aspect. Great stuff, a lot younger than yesterday though wonderful now.

Darker in colour than the preceding Montevertine of the same vintage but also less exciting, kind of monolithic. Compared to previous occasions, it appears to be in an in-between phase.

Lots of red and black fruit on the nose. Black cherry, pepper, and a hint of cedar on the palate. Medium acid, and very chewy tannins on the finish. This tasted more like a meritage than a Super Tuscan to me, but was very enjoyable.

OK, I guess. Overall affect of cockeyed maturity in BDX. Some blackberry pemmican. Has a dusty funk underneath that oscillates from sick to ugh.
