Cork broke while opening / filtered and decanted and breathed for 90 minutes. Color was bronze. Muted fruit on the nose with smoke and herbs. Taste opened up in the mouth after further 20 minutes. Still solid tannins bit finish quite short.
Color: Violet with a rusted ruby/Mahogany tinge to the wine
Smell: Earth, saddle leather, pot pourri, dried cranberries, mushrooms, sweet oak, tobacco, and a melange of dark berries.
Taste: Sour cherry initially giving way to dried fruits, and a rustic earthy character to this wine that lingered on the palate with a hint of chewing tobacco
Overall: I have to agree with the last reviewer...this really is everything you could want in a Gran Reserva. This wine really took about 3 hours to open up and continued to drink well for another 2-3 hours before it was gone. Given the time it took to open I would think that this is a wine that could easily go another 10+ years and possibly another 20 or more. Outstanding structure and just a lovely wine...I wish I had more.
Magnum. Everything you want in a Muga. Sensual and enticing nose of macerated cherry, spice and leather. Mushrooms. Crisp and tight acid, mid-palate and finish very good. Drinking in its prime, but in no danger of the downhill yet. Should stay in this range for a few more years.
