High acidity and minerality, peach and virtual notes more in the background. Not a typical Wachauer Riesling like e.g. Hirtzberger’s Setzberg or Pichler‘s Steinertal.

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2011 (Restaurant Waldhorn, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Universal Bottle double decanted about 7h before the tasting. Bought at release, perfectly stored. As always a pleasure and a wonderful example to trick people in blind tasting. Schütt is always more “Pfalz” than “Wachau” to me and never loaded with botrytis. Quite spicy nose. Very balanced and harmonious on the palate, nice zesty bitter notes, good mineral core. Good length. Potential for at least 5+ years. 92+

Dinner at Jade Court (Chicago, IL): Sharpie marker, aldehydic, and very high-toned on the nose and palate. Some nice white florals here, and enough acidity to keep the sweeter elements in check, but overall, not too much a fan of those elevated notes.

Clear bright yellow-green, with nothing in the colour indicating the age. The aromas here are much more tropical than what I'm used to for Wachauer wines; tinned pineapple, peach, apricots. The other note here alluding to aldehydes/"sharpie-marker" is spot on. Not a negative thing for me, maybe a little distracting but there's enough primary fruit here. The extract on the mouthfeel is quite daunting at first and it takes some time for the palate to calibrate. It's hefty and a little viscous, but the citrusy acidity softly fades in to cut it. The sensation of the aftertaste is so vividly mineral, it's as if I've been inhaling rock-dust. Stunning wine.
