  • A friend brought this as a birthday gift. On initial opening, it had a muddy mushroom-ish barnyard funk. I could not figure what to think about it. We decanted it and put it aside for 2 hours. Wow what a difference that made. The nose was much bigger, very floral (rose/lavender), bacon fat. Mouthfeel was much bigger. Tannins receded but still an edge. It went from maybe 82 points to 93-94 points. A very interesting and special experience. Lovely.

  • Spectacular. Great structure, amazingly gripping, old Barolo. Earth floor with notes of blackberry, cherry liqueur, tobacco, and anise. Terrific QPR. Very slight bit of metallic aftertaste keeps it from being a 95.

  • Nicely aged barolo. Drinking very well. In that good spot where you can get some of the more aged character and still just a background hint of fruit.

  • Perfume was rolling out the glass after a two hour decant. The dried roses, cedar, candied oranges, and some sweet cherries are what make this wine special. However, there is a tannic tone leaving an unresolved finish, might be better in another 10+ years.

  • 10 hours slow ox.
This is a youthful but sturdy, tannic behemoth with a very reticent nose, on the palate coal, tar, dark cherries, rose, confection. At about the 12 hour mark Christmas confection, dominosteine, gingerbread, still very tannic.
Decanting at 13 hours really opened up the nose: leather, dark earth, forest floor, truffles, complex spices. Whilst somewhat softened is still very tannic, but otherwise quite velvety dark red fruits, spice and confection.
A few more decades probably wouldn’t hurt...
