Pretty hefty for what is a second wine from LL, on the heels of their 2009, arguably the best vintage they have produced so far (2016 is a candidate for another winner).
This has substance and weight and feels more like declassified fruit rather than trainer fruit from younger vines. Pretty weighty, dense, plush and earthy, yet it lacks a bit of freshness now. Seems the merlot wants to go a bit meaty, but has not gotten there yet. This would have been really great 3 years ago...Still very good now and a good glimpse into the outstanding winemaking style and management of this producer. DRINK

PnP out of cool storage. Color is dark purple fading slightly to a narrow strip of fuchsia at the edge. Aroma of darker fruit such as blueberry and blackberry, tobacco, leather and some savory herbs with very little volatile alcohol. Light legs. On the palate there is dark fruit, mouthwatering acid, soft and well-integrated tannin and a bit of heat or pepper in the finish. Drinking with dinner of salad with a vinaigrette dressing and some chicken. After dinner the wine is drinking quite nicely on its own. Second night the wine is still showing a nice balance. This wine does not feel like it is at end of life to me.

This wine has arrived! Soft palette black cherries and currants with earth and subtle lead pencil with spice screams French St Estephe
