Dinner with the IT kakis (Szechuan Douhua, Kitchener Road): After some swirling, this spotted a very bright, floral, red-fruited nose with some sprinkling of spices. The red-fruited profile continued onto the palate, with cherries and a little bit of earthly note encapsulated in a balanced and silky delivery. This got tighter in the glass, and seemed a bit shutdown towards the end. Will hold my remaining bottles for at least another 5-yrs to see how this develops...
A lovely floral nose with pretty red fruit and some nice baking spice made this hard to put down, especially next to the mostly-closed Bize. Elegant with a velvety mouthfeel, this is quite primary with rich red fruit and moderate spice. There was a bit of earthiness, but not nearly as pronounced as with the Volnay Caillerets I tasted last week. This wine offers immediate pleasure now, but will likely reward those who tuck it away for a while.
Alcohol :: 13% Decanted for 90mins. Good perfume floral scent, sweet red fruits and a touch of iron and forest floor. Medium - full bodied. This I rally well made, everything is in good balance with excellent ripe blue and red cherry fruits, leather, tea leaves, dry extract and firm tannin. The new wood lends hint of spiciness that lingering in the mouth together with the inner perfume. The med - long finished is a bit heavy though as the power starts to kick in. This is a serious bargain, high QPR and will continue to evolve over the next 5-7yrs. 90-91+
