Nose has a capsicum and red fruited character. Some tomato leaf greenness too and something in the citrus spectrum; maybe some blood orange zest.
Palate has more of the same, texturally it's not the finest grained of wines but there is still lots to like. This improves with some air. Wonder if the second half of the bottle will have opened out or opened out and died in the fridge door!
Works well with steak frites.
My impressions of 2003 are less negative than many but (with the exception of Beaumont which was excellent) the grands chateaux, I think, handed the exceptional conditions better.

This was much better than two previous bottles I have had. While the previous bottles had a stewed flavor that seemed to indicate it was passed its prime, this one was much fresher and nicely balanced. Nose was very pleasant and mid-palate showed some nice fruit, not a particularly long finish but refreshing and enjoyable. Made for a nice compliment to some pizza and pasta with fresh basil, squash and asparagus. If I could guarantee they would be as intact as this one, I'd buy a few more to keep around. Given the bottle variation I've experienced with this wine, I probably wouldn't role the dice.

A tale of two cities! Very pleasant earthy tones on the nose, highly enjoyable texture, and a nice initial flavor of currant/raisin with a hint of cherry on the front end. Acidity is still plentiful however the fruit has faded making for a very hollow mid-palate and an unpleasant soapiness on the finish. Nonetheless, I found myself quick to replace the lacking mid palate/finish with returns to the nose, texture and initial attack. Drank over two days and remained consistent on day two. My impression, and consistent with 2003 vintage, is that this was probably a more enjoyable bottle a few years ago. No need to wait on this as its best days are likely in the rear view but there is enough acidity to keep this alive for awhile. Drink 'em if you got 'em (and bring some nice chocolate to cut the bitterness on the finish.)

On Christmas Day in VA with Sue, Jen, Tash and Ann L. Cedar, leather, smoke, tannins and not much fruit left. Best with our lamb roast with an herbal spice rub (rosemary, sage, salt pepper, thyme) and infused with garlic, which reduced the tannins and brought out a little more fruit. I guess I am a hard grader vs. others on CT. We paid $20: good QPR for that.

Easy grace, subtle an shining with hints of fruit and spice. Mostly, though, it is cedar and fruit. Not that complex, but the balance while it shifts among flavors is a joy.
