It's been quite some time so thought I'd open something old this Sunday. Surprisingly this oldie from Bordeaux hasn't died just yet!
Of course lots of aged and madurized (port-like) notes, yet still elegant on the palate. Red fruit flavours have certainly not faded with cherry and also prune. Backbone/structure is fairly thin but not tired at all, still some leather and earthiness left and plenty of vibrancy. Tannins are still present but of course very much subdued.
Enjoyable stuff, especially for its age!

Lovely old left bank nose - wafts of tobacco smoke, wet leaves and cedar wood drifting amidst a core of dark berries and cassis. The palate had a cool reserve to it, with a chewy acidity and fine but really firm tannins forming a structured backdrop for clean, clear flavours of dark berries and cassis, all absolutely infused with earthy, powdery tobacco leaf as it moved into a nicely full finish. Not the strongest wine, but again very enjoyable indeed. Drinking well now.
