Tasted blind. Great, mature Cabernet nose of red and dark fruit, dark chocolate, and leather. Good acidity with more red fruited notes on the palate and nice tannins that add structure. Long finish. This is a great wine that improved with time in the glass, wow.

back on form - hardly recognizable as a California Cab by current standards, this wine is all aged finesse, low alcohol and very food friendly. Needs a decant and lovely with rare steak

This bottle was a little off. Fill was top shoulder and the cork was wet to the top and moved easily in the bottle. The initial nose was classic aged and wet Chuck Taylor high top (the ones you wore when you were mowing the lawn with no socks), which knocked a few of the guests back. Over 30 minutes these hostile yet nostalgic notes dissipated and the wine was more reasonable, although muted with plums and dirt, slightly pruney, but several people would not go back near it. This also suffered by following some superb old Bordeaux as it was in the position of "should we open one more?". Perhaps with more patience this might have been more appreciated. Not the best showing for what is usually a lovely wine.

Lovely again. This bottle had a depressed, wine-soaked cork that was easily extracted intact. Perhaps not the best maintained example, but no problems. Subtle again opening up beautifully over the first hour. Tannins resolved. Earthy, complex and evolving.

(Charles Krug Winery (Peter Mondavi Family) Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage Selection) Bricked medium red violet color; savory, mature, tobacco, dried red currant, cedar nose; tasty, tart red currant, dried cherry, cedar, light tobacco palate with firm tannins and good balancing acidity; long finish (12% alcohol; 24 months in French & Yugoslavian oak; slightly above bottom of the neck fill on this bottle)
