K&L Bordeaux Tasting (K&L, San Francisco): Light golden color; floral, light, elegant, botrytis spice, very complex nose; palate has salinity, great acidity with vibrancy, now some tropical fruit, pineapple, picks up some body, great sweetness; finish is long. Nose is effortlessly light but very complex, while the palate has the density and richness as well as a superb vibrancy. A superb Sauternes and an excellent yquem, and I'm curious about how this new style of yquem (closer to barsac on the nose) will mature. The last time I had this it improved for at least a week, and this time was better than even the best from last time. 96-98++.
Honeysuckle, pineapple, botryoides nose. Palate of petrol, pineapple, and almond. Good persistence, and though it's rather big it's fairly light. Good balance and can't imagine it not improving over the next decade. Hold.

(Château d'Yquem (Sauternes)) Picked over four tries. Residual sugar 145 g/l, acidity 4 g/l, alcohol 13.5%. Wow - what an extravagant and super aromatic profile! This is just brimming over with pineapple, apricot, white peach and mango, drizzled with a little honey, but lifted with fresh vanilla pod and floral scents. There is a remarkable composition here, of blended tropical fruits, positively explosive with its fresh character. A supple start, with liquid peach and mango fruit characters, yet rich, dense and textured. A very fine structure, a tight frame to it, but with an undeniable powerful substance. Good vibrant acidity, with a very fresh core. Wonderful botrytis depth here, combined with the acidity of the vintage. Stunning wine.
