Community Tasting Notes (average 93.9 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 68 notes)

Tasted by smenzies on 2/5/2010 & rated 94 points: Decanted for 2 hours...which it needed. Lovely fruit, beautifully balanced. Drink over the next 5 years. (230 views)

Tasted by lovelandre on 12/24/2009: Had it with K.. Amazing mind-blowing wine, very impressesive, big but perfectly balanced, amazing nose of blueberry and some minty aspects, very very long finish...One to remeber 97 pts (393 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 10/16/2009 & rated 92 points: Sacred Cow stands before the forest (Restaurant X, Oklahoma, OK): WIML91-92?

Tasted October 16, 2009 at an offline.

Slow-O for about 8 hours before serving. Purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of currants, white pepper, a hint of balsamic and some added notes of berries. Flavors of currants, blueberries, a bit of mocha and some black berries. Medium acidity and tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink now with some air or continue to hold. (784 views)
Tasted by bingdoodle on 9/25/2009: Consistent with prior notes. (959 views)
Tasted by Animus on 9/23/2009 & rated 99 points: This is a beautiful wine. We enjoyed it with a spicy vegetable chili. On the nose, clear notes of black pepper (true to its name) and lavender; beautiful complexity and balance. On the palate, a clearly complex, amazing wine. And then the finish lasting over 30 seconds of pure spirituality. This is why I collect wine! (1038 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 8/6/2009 & rated 89 points: Not as fine as the frist bottle. Nose was a little phenolic without showing much else. Flavors tended to be on the green side, slightly unripe blueberry, a bit sour, very moderate tannins. Maybe this is in a dumb phase now, because this bottle did not measure up. Stored well.  Tasted by poloni on 7/26/2009 & rated 91 points: No fruit wow factor; but it's nice to have a refined Aussie for a change. Long finish. (1189 views)
Tasted by mhulan on 7/25/2009: Big jammy style Shiraz with lots of fruit and spicy notes. Ready Now. (1179 views)

Tasted by cadamson on 7/4/2009 & rated 91 points: Dark, almost black with deep purple edges. Good nose with dark fruit, pepper and chocolate. Medium bodied on palate with reasonably well integrated sour cherry, dark fruits and cream. Oak was mild, very good wine. Would just like to see a bit more complexity. (1366 views)

Tasted by DoubleD1969 on 6/6/2009 & rated 94 points: We very much enjoyed this wine this past Saturday night. Just opened and poured a glass which we allowed to sit for about 30 minutes. Still lots of fruit -- from the initial black cherry nose to the black plummy finish. Detected some cloves, cedar, dark chocolate, bacon, and buttered popcorn. (Yeah, bacon and popcorn!) Vibrant maroon color. Very smooth finish and the alcohol (14.5%) was almost invisible. Went great with some grilled boneless ribeye. (1501 views)
Tasted by cvvhrn on 4/16/2009 & rated 90 points: Hints of dark fruit and fennel, witha palate of spice, minerals, white pepper, and more fennel. Nice finish (1672 views)
Tasted by Razorback on 2/23/2009 & rated 92 points: Opaque colour (eerily similar to the colour of the label!), with a dark ruby rim. Opened up with aromas of licorice, chocolate, prunes, and some VA. Settled down over time to reveal more spiciness, cinnamon and black pepper. I suspect storage may have been an issue as this bottle tasted (somewhat) cooked, but not enough to consider it "flawed". Palate was definitely not blockbuster-shiraz; balanced, good acidity, almost no tannins left, medium finish. Kind of disappointing showing but I believe it may be partially or entirely due to storage conditions. Hope the last one shows a bit better ... (1995 views)

Tasted by bingdoodle on 2/9/2009: very good, see prior notes (2004 views)
Tasted by HTN on 1/31/2009 & rated 95 points: (1371 views)
Tasted by swimdroid on 1/11/2009 & rated 92 points: Tons of berry fruit, some anise. A bit hot for my taste - did not seem as smooth as past bottles, but was drunk along with an 05 Ken Wright Guadalupe so it suffered by comparison. (2056 views)
Tasted by JimN on 1/4/2009 & rated 94 points: WOTN at our neighborhood dinner and wine pairing. Consumed after the meal and was a pop and pour. Would have preferred to give it some time, but no one seemed inclined to wait. (2075 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 1/3/2009 & rated 94 points: I am not sure that I get black pepper in either the nose or palate, but a fine wine nonetheless that drinks like a very good Australian Shiraz should. Listed at 14.1-16% alcohol, I think it probably is near the lower end of the range, thankfully. Nose of licorice, strawberry without any overt oak. The wine is really smooth, a mix of purple berries, anise, underbrush and maybe a hint of sweet oak with vanilla. Not overly tannic, hot or acidic, fine balance and could probably drink well (save the obvious dead periods that will come and go) for at least another 5-10 years. I know, $80 so hard to compare it to the brett filled, pruned, hot, overly extracted, high alcohol mess of wines that have become Aussie Shiraz in the $15-50 price point. But really, how hard could it be to make this wine instead of those stool looseners (read Molly, Two, etc., etc., etc.) at that price point. Pick the grapes a few days earlier, cut back on the oak and show some restraint, and yes, Virginia, I can do without 16% alcohol in a non-fortified still wine. Oh, I know, to make this instead might cost a point or to on the WA ratings. Blah. Purchased 2 at $80, 6 at $54 from WinEx several years ago for a net about $62. SCORE. (2037 views)

Tasted by vinaigre on 12/20/2008 & rated 93 points: Montreal Offline: End of Year 95+ tasting 2008 (Restaurent le Bleu Raisin): Nice deep ruby red. Nose of red fruits, pepper and spice. Nice texture and finish with good balance. Nice retro of fruits on the finish wit a medium to long finish. (2221 views)
Tasted by bingdoodle on 12/4/2008 & rated 96 points: WOW!

Decanted for about an hour as usual

Very slight hint of black pepper there for sure, rich, dense mouthfeel, so deep...lovely stuff, not a fruit bomb...the real deal...I'm so very glad I have a couple more of this vintage! (2270 views)
Tasted by wpiers on 11/29/2008: An absolute pleasure. (2126 views)
