Jeebus it's big. Even after 4 days open, it's big. Yes it's got alcohol, and it does show up on the aftertaste. However it's a beautiful wine, if you like full bodied reds. Lots of oak, but what is so impressive is that the oak is secondary to the fruit. Dusty tannins on the mid palate and a drying finish which tells me the tannins need more time. For the money, fantastic.
My first Ridge Petite Sirah, and it was smokin. Great nose full of brambly fruits and spicy scents (reminiscent of a nice Ridge Zin in that respect) but with more menthol and floral aromas and a nice depth to it. On the palate, the tannins had the wine on lockdown, but you could sense the acid and freshness of the fruit that make me confident my next bottle (in 5-7 years) will be even more interesting.
