Decanted through the an aerator for just .30 min. Innially tart berries, hints of bitter chocolate, evolve over the next 1 hour or so into a complex array of cherries, blueberries, boysenberries, truffles, earth and just enough tannins and acidity to add complexity. Drinking well now with a combination of time and air or drink over the next 5+ years. This is the kind of stuff that made love vino!
It had been a good 2+ years since I last opened one of these, as I found the wine pretty tannic and closed at release. Opaque dark purple in the glass, with a gorgeous, multifaceted nose of dark fruits accented by notes of coconut, toasted almonds, pipe tobacco, menthol, and the usual Ridge signature of citrus and vanilla spice. The tannin has softened and the wine is very approachable now, but it is still pretty heavy on the tongue. It will make for a stellar aged petite, so I'll try to wait at least another couple of years before opening another of my remaining 2 bottles.
