  • Dark red at the core, fading to the edges. Rich berry aromas. Bright and precise on the palate, cherries, strawberries, a bit of plum, moist earth. Fine tannins, lovely acidity and balance. Finishes long and gentle with strawberries. Lovely if not overly complex. Drink next 2 to 3 years.

  • Very pleasant aroma of red fruits, subtle baking spices and molasses. This is sliding from its peak but is by no means fading or faded. Very light fruity finish but no bricking and nothing off. A great simple, aged Pinot.

  • Might've been my last bottle. Think I've had about six -- this was the best of them though.
Still had plenty of spritz at first, and tasted kinda reduced, but after an hour this became a pleasant meatiness I thought, and sufficient dark red raspberry fruit. More balanced than previous bottles. This was heavy for a PN in my house, but not heavy.
Made me regret the five or six I'd opened a couple years ago.

  • Drinking better than the last bottle, with 5 hours of air. Still not very noteworthy.

  • My only bottle. Copain is the #1 producer in my cellar so that's testament enough as to how I see the winery but this doesn't ring like a Copain pinot to me. It did start with the same dissolved CO2/spritz that others have noticed. Little prickly to the palate last night, even some of it popping right after I pulled the cork from the overnight rest closing the bottle. However, the spritz does go away and is gone now from the wine so it takes some patience. Aside from that, the wine is a bit burly for my tastes, being that I have the Anderson Valley palate that Copain does so well. This wine shows a decent amount of red fruits, mainly riper raspberry and some blueberry shading, along with cola, which is the part that I don't much dig in pinot. Some like it, I used to but not so much anymore. This isn't a bad wine, it's just a little more heavier than the Copain from the northern parts and has abit denser finish. Has some finishing acidity, a bit of a funky note too. Drinks well enough now.
