Very old world. Visited the winery in Santa Rosa which is located in an industrial park. They source all their grapes at Siduri. Went to Sonoma in search of great Pinots and they had several at Siduri but had to buy this Syrah due to my favorite flavor profile represented in this syrah. Others have described it very well. I recommend a trip to the winery if in Sonoma.
Tried it with many other wines at a tasting at the Siduri warehouse/winery in Santa Rosa. Very fun experience and this wine stood out because it does not taste new world at all. If you like old world, barnyard with mild fruit then you need to try this. Bought half a case and had a bottle last night with a delicious leg of lamb.
This has a good mix of new and old world elements. A distinct funky note, saddle/barnyard too, that gives it an old world sense. Then, the darker fruit, yet nicely balanced with good acid and a roasted quality. I suspect the wine will change overnight as this impression is merely after twisting off the top about 45 mins ago....with one day of slox ox, the aromatics now express graphite. The palate has fattened up a bit more and the funky note has evolved to something more bloody, red and black fruited, tight, finishing with a good dose of acid and black licorice. god, this wine is all over the place in flavor and expression! One more glass for Day 3, tomorrow.
1 hr decant. Expressive nose of roasted meats, black fruits and smoke. Plenty of acid lifting the palate, which is well balanced between savory, smoked beef notes and black fruits with black pepper. Develops some nice mid palate weight with air. My favorite Rosella's so far. ( out of 3 vintages 08-10)
