Given the wine's reported 15.8% alcohol, this bottle (the only one in my cellar) was opened as a "defensive" measure, fearing that it would become disjointed with further cellaring. While some may question my decision to open it this soon, I am happy to report that it is currently lusciously packed with blackberry fruit, anise, sage, dark plum and Asian spices on both the nose and palate. Full-bodied and with low acidity, it somehow beautifully integrates its lofty alcohol and substantial fine-grained tannins. Rich and layered in the middle, it closes with a smooth, long finish. It is difficult to predict how this wine will age, but it can be said that it is gorgeous at this very moment. I would opt for early rather that later consumption. Drink now-2018.
