Color shows age. Nose slightly maderized. Open up a bit over an hour in glasses. Fruit is gone and slight astringency remains. After overnight under vacuum pump, not bad next morning; tastes more sangiovese than cab at this point. Past prime but not flawed. Drinkers who like much older domestic cabs may still find pleasure in this bottle.
Translucent crimson color with a brick-tinted rim. Promising nose of dried wood, orange peel and currants. The palate starts out quite tart and angular. Allowed to decant for a few hours, it broadens out slightly but the fruit never really comes out to play. The result is a somewhat astringent, sour mouthfeel. I've enjoyed bottles of Caymus past their 30th birthday, but this vintage doesn't show any indications of improving further. Drink up.
