Initially, the nose was quite closed. Despite its age the typical petroleum, wax had not developed yet, inviting nose with some herbal touches to it. On the palate, surprisingly subtle and complex, maybe less intensity and body than for example the Trimbach Riesling Reserve of the same vintage. However, very harmonious and relaxed with less overt acidity. Not at its best yet but already very enjoyable. I really enjoyed it. Good value for money.

No Jubilee more: Hugel's trend towards terroir, over brand (Hugel & Fils): Like a combination of 2008 and 2009, this 2010 - technically, dear readers, no longer called Jubilee but rather Riesling Grossi Laüe - was harvested at 14% potential alcohol, but there seems to be more relative acidity and thus more zing than in 2009 even if nearly 7 grams of residual sugar. Wet stone dominates here, rather than stone fruit, which is more ripe and white than yellow. I prefer it to 2009, and like its 2008 qualities, although the 2008 may in the longer run prove superior. Full body and long finish.

Prince - Hugel tasting (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Aromas of cream, lime - almost lime meringue or key lime pie filling with spice notes, perfumed top notes and an almost peach element. In the mouth the wine is juicy with tart lime over lemon juice and quite mineral, almost electric back of the palate tang, very young, needs plenty of time.
