Much improved over my last bottle of this about 5 years ago. No petillance, just a touch of heat on the finish. Moderate tannins. 3 bottles left, I would guess these have another couple years on this plateau. Way overvalued in the secondary market, but that’s a different issue.

This experience provides a glimpse of the classic Rayas aromatics, so I'll let this squeak in to a 90, but for my taste this has excessive ripeness and alcohol, with pruney overtones that I find unappealing. If served on the rocks, this could merit a higher score.

A few epic bottles in July: This wine pours light garnet in the glass with light bricking. The highly expressive nose shows animal fur, tar, very ripe cherry, prune, orange peel, incense, and bitters. On the palate this comes across as rich and ripe with low tannin and low acid. Alcohol and prune turn up prominently on the finish, augmented by orange pith and bitters. While the ripeness of the vintage is prominently on display here, and of course I'd rather have a lower octane version, the Rayas signature red fruit, orange peel and spice is present, which redeems this somewhat in my view. A good but not great Des Tours CdR.

Lovely red berry fruit with an impressive intensity.. Light and elegant flavors but still with a lot of depth. Stunning wine!
