  • Inner liner was stuck to the lip of the bottle. I was a bit worried until I took the first whiff of the wine.

Medium clear garnet in color. Complex earthy nose. Starts off with a healthy dose of black pepper followed by wet pine needles, juniper, eucalyptus, leather, red cherries, a bit of nutmeg, and a mild hint of floral perfume. Light bodied and high acidity. Palate of juicy spicey tart cherry pie mixture without the sugar. Nice tannin structure leads to a long chalky finish. Finish turns more black pepper and cinnamon driven spice mixture, leather, tart cherry skin, dusty chalk, gravel, and cocoa. A persisting tart cherry and floral note that just holds on and on.

Wonderfully complex and approachable. This is extremely good and feels like this is at its peak for me. I am in no rush to consume the other bottle from this vintage.

  • Third bottle from a case of 6. More advanced than the last bottle in 2016 but this is still getting better. Wouldn't worry to keep another 5 years. Very well balanced and vital. See previous notes as well.

  • Under stelvin cap. The product of a cooler, wetter vintage (in Bannockburn, Central Otago terms). Ruby beginning to shift garnet. Mixed spices, black pepper, red cherries, red currants, earth, dried herbs and a touch of tobacco. Similar flavours on palate. Complex and layered. Well balanced. Precise but not obtrusive acidity. Complete and quite long, finishing dry. Attractive secondary development. Now - at age 10 - seemingly drinking at its best, perhaps for next 5+ years.

  • Part of a Felton Road virtual tasting. Tasted together with 2011 Cornish Point and Block 5 and the same wines from the 2008 vintage. Considerable step up in intensity from the Cornish Point. Dark red sweet fruit, earthy notes and good acidity to offset the sweetness. Long finish.

  • A generous dose of new, roasted oak on top of a charming spiciness, black pepper and light red fruit. Slender, fresh, round with great length. Very tasty!
