Color/App: pale ruby core -> light, diffuse garnet rim. Wonderful bouquet of roasted cherries, pomegranate, and sous bois. Palate was fairly full bodied (belying that pale appearance) once again showing off singed cherries, raspberries and underbrush. Great acidity and a long finish rounded out a lovely wine that is at apogee now and probably for a least a couple more years.

Hangover lunch at Otto, root day. Lots of the stony, herbal, even toasted vintage flavors, well overshadowing the fruit. Even in the last glass there wasn’t much charming Rousseau red/blue fruit, quite dark. Okay texture on the palate, somewhat weighty. Not sure if an off bottle or just not in the phase. Perfect provenance and fill (into the neck, not moved for at least ten years). 89-91

Side by side with the ‘01 Ruchottes. It is interesting to go back to my notes comparing these a few years ago, where that one was considered more open and forward. Now, that is starting to come home to roost, with the ‘98 feeling a bit more at peak and the ‘01 on the backside. Still both are great wines, and a treat to dip into the dwindling stock.

A nice, though not blockbuster Rousseau Mazy; a strong contender on it's own, but overshadowed by some very nice higher grade wines. At the beginning of it's drinking window, but probably worth to wait a few more years.

aroma of signature red, hawthorn, some game.
On palate, it's mouth coating, and has great flavor intensity but not that concentrated and deep.
